Minneapolis, MN--In the last few months, Minneapolis residents are joining together once again to voice their opposition to the City’s Concept Plan for the Upper Harbor Terminal, a development plan that would continue to exacerbate the ongoing inequity felt by community members in North Minneapolis.
This opposition has come from various organizations. From Parks and Power to Environmental Initiative; The city’s own Community Environmental Advisory Commission has advised council members and the mayor to vote no on the Concept Plan, while the National Parks Service has also expressed concerns, which continue to go unanswered.
After the Economic Development and Regulatory Services Committee voted to take the plan to a vote before the full City Council on March 1, the Upper Harbor Terminal Co-Creation Team began calling for another no vote. Even with all these groups publicly opposing the plan, council members are all set to approve it Friday morning.
While you may have heard one of those council members say critics of the Concept Plan have felt heard, the Upper Harbor Terminal Co-Creation Team begs to differ. Quite loudly, in fact!
What:A rally to urge City Council to vote NO on the Upper Harbor Terminal Concept Plan.
Who:Minneapolis Climate Action, Parks and Power, Project Sweetie Pie, Sierra Club, The Alliance
When:Friday, March 1
8:45 a.m., Rally
9:30 a.m., City Council Meeting
Where:City Hall Council Chambers, Room 317, 350 South 5th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55415
Why:Once the Concept Plan is approved, it is very unlikely that anything in the current development plan will be able to be altered to fit the needs of the community. Raise your voices now to let City Council know this is not acceptable!
